The Folk at The Salmon Bothy
The original ‘Folk’ at the Salmon Bothy were a small group of folk with an interest in Traditional
Bothy at Portsoy. An enthusiastic organising committee was formed and the first folk night was held on the 20th of March 2009.
On the opening night a much larger than expected crowd descended on the Bothy and were entertained by a huge array of extremely talented performers. Since then, the open mic evenings have continued on the 3rd Friday of each month and have gone form strength to strength.
We are delighted to have a hard core of fine local performers, in addition to welcoming visiting musicians and singers who have travelled especially to join us in the Bothy. There is however, always room for those who just want to listen, enjoying the wide variety of music on offer.
Additional 'special' nights were organised, where guest artists were invited to entertain us. These evenings proved to be a great success. Among our special guests have been Sheena Blackhall, and Shepheard, Spiers and Watson. Also, a 'Bothy Ballads and Burns Night' featuring Barbara Anne Burnett, Bill Gray, Tom Spiers, Euan MacIlwraith and Geordie Murrison, proved very popular indeed.
The Inaugural Portsoy Folk Festival, ‘The 1st Haal’, in early Summer 2010, was extremely well received, as was 2011’s ‘2nd Haal’. Do come and join us - you won’t be disappointed.
